Membership Class
Grow in the faith. Belong to the family.
“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”
Acts 2:42 (ESV)
Every Christian is a learner
Jesus sent his church to make disciples, “teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:20, ESV). To be a disciple is to keep learning from him.
The Membership Class is not an exam to pass. It is one way our church obeys that command, so that we know the Lord we trust, and love him more.
Our church holds to the Westminster Confession of Faith. It teaches that Christ has given his visible church the ministry, the Word and the ordinances of God, to gather his people and build them up until Christ returns (chapter 25.3). Belonging to a local church is how we receive that care.
We grow strong in the Word
Christ gives pastors and teachers to build up his people, so that we are no longer “carried about by every wind of doctrine” (Ephesians 4:14, ESV). Knowing what we believe keeps us steady.
We belong to a family
In the early church, those who believed were baptised and added to the church, and “they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship” (Acts 2:42, ESV). Faith in Christ was never meant to be lived alone.
We are cared for
Our elders and pastors “are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account” (Hebrews 13:17, ESV). Membership shows them clearly whom they are called to shepherd, pray for and visit.
We serve one another
“Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it” (1 Corinthians 12:27, ESV). As members we commit to worship, pray, give and serve together, each using the gifts God has given.
